Fukushima

On March 11th, the big earthquake and tsunami hit Tohoku area, and about 20,000 people were killed or still missing. Many who lived along the coastline lost houses and investments and they now live in shelters or temporary housing. Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima are the three most damaged prefectures. Among them Fukushima is facing more difficulties, because of Nuclear Power Plants. In the first few days after the earthquake, a lot of radiation spread in the area to pollute people and places. That wasn’t told to the public until the first week of May.

Neighbors is now trying to make a documentary film on people’s interviews in Fukushima. The first session was done in April- May and the second session is planned for September.

3月11日の東日本大震災では2万人ほどの方が死亡または不明になりました。海岸近くに住んでいた方を中心に、津波や家屋倒壊の被害で、避難所や仮設住宅に住んでおられます。岩手、宮城、福島の3県はもっとも被害の大きかった県ですが、福島は原発があるため、さらなる困難を抱えています。震災後の数日で、かなりの量の放射能が拡散して、人々や土地を汚染しました。その事実は5月1週目までは、一般には公開されていませんでした。ネイバーズでは、福島の人々にインタビューをして映像を作っています。第一弾は4月から5月にかけての取材で、この後、9月にも10日間ほどの取材を行います。
